The Park was set up with financial support, in form of grant, from Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India, New Delhi and technical support from M S Swaminathan Research Foundation in the 20 acres land allotted by the Government of Tamilnadu & implemented by Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO). The Park began its commercial operations in 2001 and over the years has proved to be a successful and unique venture in women entrepreneur development in the Biotech Sector. The Park has been designed based on the principle of decentralised production supported by centralised services to promote a series of biotechnology based enterprises in the areas of Agro, Food & Nutrition, Medical & Healthcare with a huge focus on mentoring, training, capacity building and providing escort services.

Since its inception the Park has turned over 500 skilled women entrepreneurs, technocrats and workers; presently the park has close to 200 women entrepreneurs & technocrats and workers with 40% of them being skilled. The Women workforce is at 60%.


The Park is currently setting up an Incubation facility, the first of its kind, supported by BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) which will have a central Instrumentation facility. About 2,500 interns and about 100 incubatees/start-ups are likely to benefit from the Park activities before 2020. The future aim is to have a turnover of INR 200 Cr by 2020.
